Dispatches from Home – Happy Birthday, Mom and Dad!

Today, June 6th, would have been my dear mother’s 95th birthday, had God not called her Home on a rainy-cold February morning in 2019. My dear father’s 95th birthday would have been in April of this year, had God not called him Home on a freezing-cold January afternoon in 1997.

Thankfully, I was holding their hands when their heavenly call came. Dad’s hospital monitors flatlined, and he was gone. Mother drew three shallow breaths, and she was gone. Each time I stood by their bed, alone, with tears in my eyes, and thanked the Good Master that He’d spared them both from a prolonged illness.

Do I miss them? More than I can say! But one day soon, I too shall be called Home. And on that glorious day, I’ll look up, and there, standing at the Gate, will be my loving parents welcoming me Home. Never to be departed again. Happy 95th Birthday, Mom! Happy 95th Birthday, Dad! I love you both! (Originally published June 6, 2021)
