That and That – Waiting to Pray.

Good evening – I’d like to thank everyone for their likes, loves, and comments concerning Mom’s 92nd birthday. As I’ve said before, I’m never sure what Mom does and does not understand. So this evening at the supper table I told her that it was her birthday. She smiled, but I knew that was not registering.

So we started supper as usual. “Dear Lord, thank you…” When I said amen, I started eating my soup. Mother didn’t. I said, “Mom, what are you waiting for. Eat. Your soup will get cold.” To which Mom said, “I’m waiting for you to say the blessing.” To which I said, “I already have.”

Then after a dramatic pause–as we say in the the theater–she said, “Well, say it again…it must have not been very good…I wasn’t listening.” We re-bowed out heads and I said, “Lord…here we are for a second time…” And that folks is the evening chuckle from the Kalberg’s house in the Hood. LOL.
