Dispatches from Home – A Letter to President Trump.
Dear President Trump – Congratulations on your decisive win. Early this morning, I read a statement by NBC writer Jonathan Allen, who stated you are “The most polarizing figure in modern American politics…” He went on to say that you “now preside over a nation deeply driven by social, racial, cultural and economic hostilities,” which you have “strategically exploited on the campaign trail for nearly a decade.” He stated it was, for you, “a successful strategy.” (I don’t necessarily agree with your “exploited” verbiage, but you are entitled to your opinion.)
Mr. Allen further opined, “The last time a defeated U.S. president avenged his loss was Grover Cleveland — in 1892. It’s been 132 years since Cleveland avenged his defeat, and Trump’s victory is the first time since that era that the White House has changed party hands in three consecutive elections. Today, some analysts read that, and public polling, as part of an apparent truth: Voters are dissatisfied with their leaders.” Thank you, Mr. Allen, for your last statement. Voters ARE dissatisfied with their leaders on both sides of the aisle.
President Trump, the time for action is now. I’m praying that you will put aside any animosity you may harbor against those who maligned you, shot at you, and painted you and your supporters as Deplorables, Nazis, and Garbage. Please, sir, put that aside! Please watch what you say and how you say it. Please set aside your narcissism, your bravado, and your name-calling. And focus on one thing—reuniting our dear country. Had Mrs. Harris won the election, I would be congratulating her, too, and imploring her to put aside her anger, as well.
The day after any presidential election, the wires are abuzz with tired expressions of “A New Day” or “It’s time to ______.” (Dear Reader, you fill in the blank.) Still, I’m looking to you to unite us and to ensure that we, as citizens, will do the same. There is a great potential for positive change if we all work together. Help pull us back to the middle; the days of too far to the Left and too far to the Right need to end. Please help “right the course of our destiny,” said a dear friend of mine.
Congress—”Will you reach each across the aisle to express your differences in a civilized tone while compromising to work towards a common goal of serving the people they are elected to represent?” Congress—will you “focus on rebuilding, strengthening and re-establishing our Nation’s place on the world stage? While protecting the greatest political experiment in history?” Will you “put aside the carnival sideshow of the “NOISE” and “Wokeness” used to distract us from the fundamentals of what’s important to our survival as Great Nation?”
President Trump, again, I congratulate you on your victory. I’m looking forward to seeing how you move our dear country forward. May Father God protect you and lead you with His wisdom and love.
I am grateful for your commitment to our country’s future. Kind regards, Anthony Wayne Kalberg
