Dispatches from Home – What Is A Peacemaker?

Good morning! The Good Book tells us in Romans 12:18, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” What is a peacemaker?

According to an Open Windows devotion, it’s this: “A true peacemaker seeks not only to maintain a loving attitude in the face of their enemies but takes responsibility for his or her role in the conflict. The peacemaker overlooks offenses in order to restore harmony. However, if the offense is too blatant to overlook, then a conversation laced with love without a hint of condemnation is in order. Negotiation and reconciliation characterize a peacemaker, as do mercy and forgiveness.”

Is there someone you need to call or visit today and make amends? To say, “I’m sorry.” To say, “Let’s let bygones be bygones…today’s a new day.” The times in which we live are frightening. We are seemingly at war when it comes to politics, religion, lifestyles, and even the “pox.” Another caveat of being a peacemaker is this: It gives you a sense of peace, knowing you have done your best to make the world a better, more peaceful, place.

As you go through the days and weeks that await you, try finding ways to “live peaceably with all men.”

Later Peace Loving Gaters!
