This and That – The Streetcar Has Passed.

WONDERFUL STREETCAR WEDNESDAYS! This will be my last post in this series. WATP’s production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE winds down on March 20th, 2022, at the Mary C Cultural Center in Ocean Springs.
It’s been almost three years since I first agreed to direct this show back in 2019. Holding it together has been both easy and challenging at times. However, a commitment is a commitment. I’m happy to report that I’ve seen my commitment through to the end!
Without my incredible cast and crew, three of whom have been with me since the beginning, this stunning production would never have occurred. Due to the COVID shutdown, staff changes at Mary C, and family problems with the cast, there were times when I thought my streetcar would never roll out of the streetcar shed. I was taught a valuable lesson, though—dreams can quickly turn into nightmares, but you must still see that dream through to the end.
Just three weeks before I was to begin rehearsals at the beginning of January 2022, I had no Stanley or a Stella. Thankfully, David Slatten and Maureen Flynn jumped in to save the day. Then, three weeks before we opened, there was backroom talk of canceling the show, moving it to another location, or selling it to another organization. I held my breath, knowing that doing so would devastate my dear cast and crew.
Happily, my dear cast and crew held it together. In so doing, we not only made a dream come true but also helped return theater to the Mary C Cultural Center.
I thank everyone involved for their talents, love, and support.
Kind regards, Andy
