This and That – The Lusitania. What Lies Beyond?

“Big Lucy” was her nickname, known all the world around.

She was the fabled jewel in Cunard’s glittering shipping crown.

But off old Ireland on a sunny May day,

Dear Lucy’s death could not be kept at bay.

Because a U-boat lurked and sealed her fate,

When the Captain yelled, Fire! For the Lucy, it was too late.

In a flash of minutes and screams and screeching steel,

Dear old Lucy went to the bottom, lying on her side with a broken keel.

Over a thousand drowning souls would ne’re again see home,

Their lives ended, floating on the water, washed by the sea and the dancing foam.

Over a hundred years have passed, since the dear Lucy sank,

But one thing remains: war is hell and knows no rank.

Brotherly kindness, compassion, and love,

Are all obliterated—war and hate go hand in glove.

Were any lessons learned on that horrid, wretched day?

I think some were, even though war and hate never go away.

One lesson true, though, stands above the rest,

It’s the one that teaches that which is best.

To discover earthly and heavenly peace,

Please choose to read the Holy Scriptures and never cease.

For when war and hate come to call, and your ship of life is sinking fast,

Rush to Father God’s lifeboat, and be saved at last.

To live forever with those you love,

Along with God and Jesus in Heaven above.
