Dispatches from Home – Bellingrath Gardens and The Lantern Festival.

Greetings!

Last Thursday, May 22nd, the Fab Four motored to Bellingrath Gardens to view the Chinese Lantern Festival. We were not disappointed! The Lantern Festival is as grand as the gardens are at Christmas, but it does not incorporate the entire garden area. That is not a hindrance, though.

The towering flowers, monumental dragons and foo dogs, trees overflowing with red-silk lanterns dancing in the evening breeze, and mechanical gators, bugs, dragonflies, and swimming dolphins are a sight to behold! The gardens open at 7:30 p.m., and I highly recommend treating you and your family to a night out at the gardens. I know you’ll be glad you did.

A big THANK YOU to Rhonda, James, and Wayne for their beautiful snaps of the evening’s festivities. Alas, my 1960s Polaroid Swinger was on the fritz. Time to buy a new one? (😂)

Big hug, y’all! 🥰

The Great Dragon, a sight to behold against the night sky.
Mr. Gator awaits.
A dancing, blue butterfly in the trees.
A blue mountain and a red butterfly.
Oh! How beautiful! Towering into the nighttime sky.
A blue frog, a magenta flower, a blue butterfly, and a headless man. Yikes!
These Venus Flytraps were over 15 feet tall.
Dancing, happy dolphins reflected in the lake.
A fashionable flying bug out for a night’s entertainment.
Beware the Foo Dogs. They’ve been known to snap and bark.
Yikes! It’s a Roger Corman memorial to his 1957 B flick “Attack of the Crab Monsters.” LOL!
Dear James, awash amounst the daffodils.
This picture in real life was breathtaking. It was a stunner!
Watch those Venus Fly Traps…they bite.
Along with the Foo dogs, Foo-gee fish swam as well.

A lovely Chinese pavilion.

You can’t take some people out in public. LOL!

Safe between the beaks of hummingbirds. Life is good.

One of my favorite snaps of the gardens. With the sound of trickling water and chatting night birds, it was a tranquil spot.
Who can’t love pandas?
Mama Bear and the Baby Panda Bear.
Purple Cornflowers. Toooo pretty.
I loved these swaying lanters in the cool summer breeze.
Dear Rhonda and James, awash with the fish.
Dear Rhonda and the sunflowers.
You turn a corner, and this Shoebill stork looms out of the darkness. He’s a big boy!
The Fab Four cuddling with the hummingbirds!
The Fab Four in the Hall of Lanters.
I think Mr Frank Lloyd Wright would have recognized the design on Mr. Turtle’s shell. LOL.
This Bleeding Heart vine was a sight to see in the greenhouse.
Pretty fish swimming in the night.
