Dispatches from Home – Happy 92nd Birthday Mom!

Greetings!
I want to thank everyone for their likes, loves, and comments concerning Mom’s 92nd birthday. As I’ve said before, I’m never sure what Mom does and does not understand. So this evening at the supper table, I told her it was her birthday.
She smiled, but I knew that was not registering. So we started supper as usual with prayer: “Dear Lord, thank you…” When I said amen, I started eating my soup. Mother didn’t.
I said, “Mom, what are you waiting for? Eat. Your soup will get cold.” Mom said, “I’m waiting for you to say the blessing.” I said, “I already have.”
Then after a dramatic pause–as we say in the the theater–she said, “Well, say it again…it must have not been very good…I wasn’t listening.”
We bowed our heads, and I said, “Lord…here we are for a second time…”
And that, folks, is the evening chuckle from the Kalbergs’ house in the Hood.
Big hug, y’all!
