This and That – Preachers, Bootleggers, and Bugs.

Greetings! For those who know me, you know that I love stores from the Great Depression! Here are some old-time preacher stories via The Simpson County News.

In the 1930s, Preacher Blair met a bootlegger on the streets of Mize, Mississippi. The bootlegger waved a $100 bill in the preacher’s face and said, “I know you won’t accept this money from a bootlegger.” Preacher Blair, quick on his feet, retorted, “Oh, yes, I will!. The Devil’s had it long enough!”

Another story gives a good reason to be thankful for window screens.

Preacher Brown was holding a revival in a little country church located deep in the piney woods of Simpson County. It was night, summertime, and all the windows and doors were open. Bugs entered unhindered and circulated among those in attendance. Suddenly, all eyes were glued on a giant bug that flew straight toward Preacher Brown. He was in mid-gape at the same moment the flying intruder made contact with his mouth. And with a gulp and a gurgle, he swallowed it. At that point, Preacher Brown added a new line to his sermon, “He was a stranger and I took him in.”

I hope this starts your day off with laughter…the best medicine, so says the Good Book.

Later Gaters! (AMGB) 🥰
