Dispatches from Home – Mom and her Cabbage Patch Doll.

Greetings! Well, it’s been one of those days…Mom’s not Mom.

She got up around 4:30 this morning–agitated and restless–and has been going strong ever since. But Rachael Gabrich Hatten saved the day! She graced us with a visit and said, “Have you tried giving her a doll to hold?” No was my answer.

When she and her daughter left, I dashed to Mom’s closet, retrieved a thirty-five-year-old Cabbage Patch doll still in its original box with original price tag–$29.95–and gave it to her. And thus the long afternoon has passed in some semblance of peace.

After she had been holding the doll for some time, I asked, “Mom, is your baby a boy or a girl?” Much to my surprise, she pulled down the doll’s rompers and looked. “Mom…boy or girl?” There was a pause, and then she said, “I can’t tell. There’s nothin’ down there…”

Cabbage Patch dolls…gotta love ’em.

Later Gaters!
