This and That – The Great Gatsby!

Greetings! The 1974 film “The Great Gatsby” is my favorite movie adaptation of Fitzgerald’s iconic novel. It paints a lush backdrop for the greed, cynicism, and the mindless pursuit of pleasure that are key themes in the novel. Hovering over this backdrop is the pain of unrequited love.

Robert Redford, as Gatsby, is shown here in his pink suit. I wonder if men really wore pink suits in the 1920’s? Sam Waterston, as Nick, and Bruce Dern, as Tom, look mighty sporty in their suits as well.

The 1920s were an era of unprecedented affluence and material prosperity, but were marred by moral and ethical bankruptcy. Sound familiar?

Later Pink-Suited Gaters!
