Poems. A Century Old. Always Loved. Never Forgotten.

You’d be one hundred today, dear Mother of mine,
The memories of your love, still around me, doth twine.
Although Heaven holds you in its bright, golden light,
Your wise words echo in my mind, all day and into the night.
I miss your sweet voice, your beautiful, gentle grace,
Along with the peace and joy that shone on your radiant, smiling face.
Although you now walk Heaven’s golden streets, far beyond my view,
My aching heart still reaches upward, crying out for you.

You patiently taught me how to face each day,
Always with God-like faith to light my darkest way.
Your quiet wisdom, which was both courageous and kind,
Still leaves its imprint on the pathways of my mind.
And as I feel this ol’ world quickly growing dim,
Your memory guides me daily, like a beloved old hymn.
Though happy Heaven keeps you blinded from my sight,
Your spirit never fades and remains eternally bright.

Remember the vacations you, Dad, and I used to share,
Dashing around, here, there, and everywhere?
From golden desert sunsets and River Road mansions, too,
Don’t forget the Mexican pyramids basking under skies of azure-blue.
Remember Florida’s glass-bottomed boats and Pontchartrain Beach?
Never forget our laughter when we took a bite of that rotten Georgia peach.
Those delightful vacation memories, evoking such fun, are oh so dear,
They cause me to smile and once again feel your loving presence near.

I’ll never forget Katrina’s screeching wind and blitzkrieg of rain,
That she dragged along with her, causing such tragic loss and agonizing pain.
Her skies were dark, the day she came ashore was frightfully long,
Yet, you stood firm, so brave, so very strong.
You calmed our fears, you held me near,
And gave us hope when at last all was clear.
The steadfastness you provided during that storm and strain,
Still lives within me, guides me, and always will remain.

So, Mother Dear, it’s with grateful tears that I lift my voice
And in your sweet, loving memory, I rejoice.
Happy 100th Birthday to you, in the glories of Heaven above,
Until we meet again, you will remain in my heart, always with love.
