Poems. A Rembrance of Fall.

In St. James’s Park, one long-ago day,

A golden-brown leaf was swept my way.

I held it close, a small bright spark,

A touching reminder of that noble London park.

Its amber veins, like paths in the rain,

Awoke a sweet and tender pain,

For even though hot summer still held the sky,

I felt Fall’s cool breath and heard it sigh.

I tucked that leaf within my mind,

A russet note the trees had signed.

And every breeze since, that’s brushed my face,

Has led me back to that languorous, happy place.

Now as the year grows old and memories call,

I long for the cool air and the first leaves of Fall.

Yet that one fallen leaf reminds me of a day,

When I heard Fall whisper, “Take heart, I’m on my way.”
